The St. James Futsal Academy participated in the 2023 Virginia Futsal State Championships this past weekend in Springfield, Virginia. More than 100 youth teams from around the greater Washington, DC region attended the tournament and competed across multiple age groups for the right to hoist the Virginia State Cup and advance to the U.S. Futsal Regional Championships next month in Atlantic City.
The U.S. Futsal National Championship has been a mark of excellence by the futsal community since 1985, and is the” Oldest, Biggest and Most Prestigious” Futsal Tournament in the United States in both Youth and Adults categories, attracting top players, coaches, and scouts from coast to coast. The host city for the National Championship rotates every two years and will be held in Las Vegas this summer.

The St. James Futsal Academy is led by Kurt Gordon with assistance and support from Eric Davey and Jimmie Henriquez, who collaborate on curriculum development, instruction and development of more than 200 Futsal Academy players in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. Members of the Futsal Academy coaching staff include Davey, Gordon, Henriquez, Eugene Asamoah, Adolph Asare, Matt Corey, Steve Friday, Brian Hash, Doug Homer and Justin Williams.
Throughout the winter season, all Futsal Academy participants receive guided training & instruction in the following areas:
- Technical development (i.e. fundamental ball skills)
- Exposure to 5v5 Futsal Game Models and Tactics
- Emphasis on Teamwork & Sportsmanship Skills
- Communication and Listening Skills

The St. James Futsal Academy participated in the 2023 US Youth Futsal Atlantic Regional Championships this past weekend in Manheim, Pennsylvania. The US Youth Futsal National Championship Series is the country's largest and most prestigious national youth futsal competition. According to the US Youth Futsal website, the 2021-2022 Championships included four USYF State Championships,12 USYF Regional Championships and the largest attended National Championship in history.
