FC Virginia accepted to Red Bull National Girls League

May 6, 2008
The Football Club of Virginia (FCV) has been accepted as the only youth soccer club in Northern Virginia into the prestigious Red Bull National Girls League (RBNGL).

The distinction establishes FCV as the premier option for female players seeking to play the best competition on a national basis year round. For the Fall 2008 league, the club will enter a U15, U16, and U17 team, while also maintaining its WAGS teams in the same age groups.

Official tryouts for the Red Bull teams will begin June 4th, but inquiries, beforehand, are welcome.

“This is an opportunity for the elite girls in our region to get the best training and compete against the best players and teams in the country year round,” said FC Virginia Director of Coaching Terry Foley, the 24-time Virginia State Cup winning Coach and 18-year veteran of youth coaching in Northern Virginia.

“RBNGL is a member of US Club Soccer,” Foley added “watching the Red Bull league in Vegas confirmed for me the vision for an elite player to play and compete at the highest level. I look at the other clubs and know there will never be an easy game”.

The RBNGL (www.redbullnl.com) is currently wrapping up its inaugural season with 16 of the top clubs in the United States. FCV was accepted in the 2008 edition at a recent league meeting in Chicago, Illinois.

The teams will compete in three National events as well as against regional competition beginning this Fall. FCV will compete regionally against seven other clubs: Stars of Massachusetts, Connecticut Football Club (CFC), Albertson, Premier Development Academy (PDA), FC Delco, Freestate, and Virginia Rush. VA Rush is the only other club in the state of Virginia accepted.

While scheduling details are being worked out nationally, the venues for the three National Events have already been set, and will take place simultaneously with existing national college showcase quality tournaments. They are Raleigh, North Carolina at the NCAA Women’s final four weekend, Las Vegas, and PDA.

The National events will provide the opportunity for teams to play out of region teams, and will likely only allow for one game per day. The regional event dates and locations will be agreed to by the member clubs, with venues rotating amongst those clubs. All results will be recorded into a national standings table, replacing each weekend’s goal of winning a tournament with the longer-term approach of consistently performing well against the best clubs in the country.

In all, 32 clubs will compete in the 2008/09 edition of the league. Other clubs in the prestigious league include CASL, Colorado Rush, Real SOCAL, Slammers, San Diego Surf, Dallas Sting, and Eclipse Select Chicago, among others.

FCV will begin formal Tryouts Wednesday, June 4th in Chantilly, VA. All players are invited to participate, The RBNGL is a US Club Soccer sanctioned competition and will not interfere with any MSYSA, VYSA, or even ODP participation.

Tryout candidates should send an email to terryfoley@fcvirginia.com or call Coach Foley at 703-932-4209.
