FC Virginia Explosion player Kim named to ECNL All Event team for Disney

FC Virginia under-17 midfielder Courtney Kim has been named to the ECNL All-Event team by the Elite Clubs National League for her recent performance at the Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando Florida.
Although going undefeated in their three ECNL games, then upsetting tournament darlings from Japan – JFA Academy, the Explosion team was actually behind in twice in the first half of their opening group game, and it was Kim’s skill and aggression that turned the tide, earning her Player of the Match honors.
"She [Kim] changed the game for us in the opening game when we were having trouble winning the midfield battle, and was a big reason we started our ECNL season with a come from behind win," said FC Virginia President and Explosion Head Coach Terry Foley, "Her technical ability and willingness to take charge set a great example for her teammates. She deserves this recognition, and we could not be more proud or her, or the team as a whole after what they accomplished together last week [winning the championship]"
Twenty-eight clubs each played 3 games over 3 days against opponents in their division. An "All-Event Team" of 11 players has been selected at each age group based on nominations from ECNL coaches and scouting by the ECNL Player Identification Program.
"We believe it is very important to recognize outstanding individual performers at ECNL events," said ECNL Vice-President Doug Bracken. "These players stood out for the quality of their play while competing against the best clubs and players in the country and they deserve this honor. Congratulations to all of them."
All-Event Teams will be selected for each ECNL event. Some of the players selected for the All-Event Teams from College Station, TX, and from the upcoming ECNL games at the Disney Soccer Showcase presented by Chelsea FC, will also be recommended for invitations to the US Club Soccer id2 camp co-sponsored by the ECNL in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in February 2010.
"Nominations and recommendations for the All-Event Teams are one small component of the new ECNL Player Identification Program," said ECNL President Christian Lavers. "It is our goal through the All-Event Team nominations and through the scouting process in the Player Identification Program to take advantage of the knowledge of all the coaches in the ECNL Member Clubs, collect this information, and then use it to help promote top players and push them forward for consideration at higher levels." The Disney All-Event teams consist of 33 players from 21 ECNL Member clubs.
Kim and her Explosion team sit in a three-way tie for sixth place in ECNL play, but are one of just three clubs in the division to boast a perfect 100% win record. All five teams ahead of them have played either six or all nine games, so FC Virginia is still very much in the hunt for winning their division’s national championship. Next up for all three FC Virginia teams competing in the ECNL will be the Las Vegas College Showcase in March, then the PDA Girls College Showcase over Memorial Day weekend, before attending the first annual ECNL National Championships in Seattle from July 15-18th.
