WAGS Tournament Title Latest for Cardinals

     FCV Cardinals won the title of U15G WAGS Tournament Champion, Flight B, after three days of intense play.  The matches were played out on the pitch at Muldoon Farm in Poolesville, Maryland.  The weather and the scenery made for perfect conditions for a great weekend of soccer.
     The Cardinals first played Brentwood Explosion, defeating them 1-0.  Next the Cardinals had to accept a draw when the New Jersey team, Atlantic United Air Storm, was awarded a PK in the last seconds of the game, the match ended at 1-1.  The Cardinals third match was against Baton Rogue U15G from Louisiana.  The match went to Cardinals 3-0. 
     Monday play brought the semi-final and then final for the Cardinals.  Both very tough, competitive games.  Semi-final play was against the GSO 93 Twisters Green from North Carolina.  The Cardinals won the match 2-1 and advanced to the Final against MSC Mustangs.  The Cardinals dominated the final match but a series of mistakes allowed a swift strike by the Mustangs tieing the game up at 1-1.  As time ran down it looked as though the game was destined to go into overtime, then the Cardinals made one last offensive move which resulted in an easy, very controlled goal.  Final 2-1 at the whistle.  A well deserved win for the Cardinals after a weekend that brought matches against 3 former State Cup Champion teams.
