The ECNL / id2 Player Development Programs will provide an opportunity for the top players within every ECNL Conference at the 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996 age groups to play with and against the best players within their region at multiple age groups, and to attend presentations from leading coaches or experts in elite athlete development. The ECNL / id2 Player Development Programs have been created with three primary goals: (i) identify the top players within each ECNL conference at multiple age groups; (ii) provide a developmental experience; and (iii) recognize and reward individual performance and achievement.

Players are selected for the ECNL / id2 Player Development Programs based on their performance in ECNL competitions and recommendations from coaches. Each Player Development Program will occur over two days and will include three training sessions/matches and a presentation for the players. All players will also receive Nike training gear.

There are no costs for participation in the ECNL / id2 Player Development Programs, as the ECNL covers all staffing, facility rental, and equipment costs. The only responsibility for participating players will be the cost of travel and accommodation (where necessary). The ECNL / id2 Player Development Program schedule is available on the ECNL website. The lists of participating players will be distributed before each event.

The following FCV players were nominated for the ECNL combine to be held Jan. 21-22 in Philadelphia for the 93-96 age groups.

Katrina Guillou
Murielle Tiernan
Sarah Hardison
Alex Meyers
Brittany Basinger
Hannah Winner Baran
Clara Logsdon
Carolyn Seltzer
Kylie Shultz
Brittany Fary
Erika Strano
Stephanie Page
Kaitlyn Dorka

As a club, FC Virginia collected 3 wins, 3 draws, and 6 losses over the course of the 3 day event.

In addition, during the first two days of the event, ECNL Player Identification Program Scouts were on hand to scout almost 100 ECNL games, during which players were evaluated in their regular team environment against top-level opponents. ECNL Scouts objectively evaluate players for consideration in either the 2011-2012 ECNL Conference Combines or the 2011-2012 ECNL / id2 National Training Camp. Unfortunately, both the U16s and U18s were defeated in their matches against the local rivals.

The next ECNL match ups are set for the weekend of October 22 and 23rd when FC Virginia travels south to compete against VA Rush and CASL.

FC Virginia's U16 ECNL team ammassed an impressive 8-0-4 record, scoring 20 goals over 12 games, during the year in the A Flight of their age bracket. Their record has them placed 7th among the top teams in the nation. This ranking has also earned them the right to compete for the National Championship against the top 8 teams of the U16 A bracket.

The U17 team also had a very successful year in Flight B. Their record over 12 games throughout the year was 6-3-3 and they scored 25 goals over the course of the year against stiff competition. They currently sit in 6th place and are fighting for the opportunity to be promoted to the A flight for the 2011-2012 season.

FC Virginia's U15 team has a considerable amount to play for over the weekend as how they finish will determine the clubs bracket placement for next year. So the Rising U15 and U14 teams will certainly be paying close attention to the U15's results this weekend.

The ECNL National Championship, which kicks off on Thurs., July 14, features 164 of the country’s top female youth soccer teams in what is one of the most prestigious events of the year.

“Having one of the national championship games broadcast live on ESPNU and ESPN3 is an incredibly exciting step for the ECNL,” said President Christian Lavers. “We are excited to be able to show the soccer world the quality of play within the ECNL and to share the goals and mission of the ECNL with a broad audience. With the Women’s World Cup Final being played the same weekend, this will be a unique opportunity for people to see the best youth soccer in the United States at the same time that, hopefully, the U.S. Women’s National Team is raising the World Cup trophy.”

Launched in 2005, ESPNU is a multimedia college sports brand, highlighted by a 24-hour television network and website – ESPNU.com. ESPNU is available nationwide in approximately 73 million households and has long-term carriage agreements with all 10 of the top multichannel TV providers – Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, Cox, DirecTV (Channel 208), DISH Network (Channel 141), Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS TV and AT&T U-verse.

ESPN3 is a broadband network for live sports programming that harnesses the quality ESPN has built through its TV networks and delivers online sports programming to fans through a rich, interactive and easy-to-use experience. ESPN3 broadcasts thousands of live games and events online each year.

“The ECNL National Championship is the goal shared by every team in the ECNL at the beginning of the year,” said ECNL Vice President Doug Bracken. “Having the chance to achieve that goal on a national stage, with all the additional excitement of a televised game, should be an experience that the players never forget.”

Participating teams will compete for age group national championships, promotion and relegation between the "A" and "B" flights in each age group for the 2011-12 season, and an overall ECNL National Club Champion.

All 52 current ECNL member clubs will be featured at the event, with each team assigned to a playoff group based upon its position in the final regular-season standings. Each team will play three games over three days.

Adding to the festive environment of the ECNL National Championship at Aurora Sports Complex will be the on-site presence of Nike, Eurosport, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Jamba Juice.

“One of the primary goals of the ECNL is to improve the daily player experience, both on and off the field,” said ECNL Commissioner Sarah Kate Noftsinger. “We hope that the ECNL National Championship, with the presence of ESPN, Nike, and so many other partners, will create a rare atmosphere.”

The ECNL is sanctioned by US Club Soccer and sponsored by Nike.

We’re moving to VCCL, and we have a good relationship with ECNL. Part of me coming in is to restructure what the club is doing so we can spend more time in each program."

Ellis said that he will be continuing to work with Rob Olsen, Director of Coaching House League, Christian Cziommer, Director of Operations, and Dean McAlpin, Director of Player Development, to focus on developing age-specific curriculums designed around Claudio Reyna’s U.S. Soccer curriculum, as well as focusing on more coaching education for the club’s staff.

"I’m really looking forward to trying to get the club to a higher level," said Ellis. "I already feel it’s one of the premier clubs in Virginia, but I want it to continue to grow so it becomes a nationally recognized club. I’d like to get the boys in the ASL, and the girls in the ECNL, and to strive to play in the top level leagues. We have to take baby steps, though, especially on the boys side, and the VCCL will help. As the boys side gets older, who knows. We may be able to get an academy program going in a few years.
D.C. United now boasts a women’s team that will compete in the W-League and they selected FC Virginia coach, Mike Jorden, to lead the new women’s team in its inaugural season.

"Mike is one of the best coaches in the region, with a long track record of success in developing female players as well as winning," said D.C. United Women General Manager Tim Schweitzer. "He brings the perfect combination of coaching ability and the relationships with top programs that we need to quickly build a highly competitive team. We couldn’t be happier to have him on board, and the team building has already moved into high gear."

Jorden, a 10-time Virginia state cup champion coach, said he’s excited to take the helm of the W-League team. "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to work with a great group of people," said Jorden, "Tim and everyone in the front office at D.C. United Women are all first class. We have a lot of work to do in a short time frame and I am looking forward to the challenge."

Jorden is an accomplished coach who has two U.S. Youth Soccer Region I titles - in 2003 and in 2009 - and has captured Virginia state titles in every age group the competition is held.

The D.C. United Women will draw players from a large pool of elite college standouts and former professionals. With numerous veteran stars and top collegiate programs in the Washington metro area, expectations will be high when United takes the field this summer.

Jorden, who was also affiliated with Virginia’s Olympic Development Program for 10 years, said he wouldn’t be surprised to one day coach his former youth players. "The idea of re-connecting with some of my former players and building relationships with new ones is extremely exciting," he said.

The D.C. United Women fill the vacancy left by the departure of the Washington Freedom Futures and will play their home matches at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md. Also the former home of the WPS Washington Freedom, the SoccerPlex is an ideal showcase for women’s minor league soccer in the D.C. metropolitan area. They will face a challenging slate of opponents in the Northeast Division this season, including notable W-League mainstays New York Magic and Long Island Rough Riders. United Women will kick off its home season on Thursday, June 9th with a match against the 2005 W-League Champions, New Jersey Wildcats.

Murielle Tiernan of the FC Virgina ECNL U16, was invited to complete four days of training and competition at the 2011 ECNL/id2 National Training Camp, which was held Feb. 10-13 on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla. The camp is a joint effort between the Elite Clubs National League’s Player ID Program and US Club Soccer’s id2 national player identification and development program. A total of 83 players, (43 born in 1994 and 40 born in 1995), representing 44 clubs attended the camp. In addition to six on-field training sessions or games played in front of U.S. National Team staff and a wide range of college coaches, participants will have the opportunity to attend educational presentations. The only cost to players involved is that of travel to and from the National Training Camp. All lodging, meals and training gear are provided by the ECNL, US Club Soccer and Nike. Included in the National Training Camp will be special appearances and presentations from former Olympic and World Cup winning players.

During the camp, the players had the opportunity to compete in front of scouts from both the U.S. Soccer Federation and top colleges from around the nation, and to learn from a series of off-field presentations, including one by former U.S. Women’s National Team standouts Mia Hamm and Kristine Lilly.

“This camp will not only be a tremendous developmental experience for the players, but it should also be an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives,” said ECNL President and US Club Soccer Executive Vice President Christian Lavers. “Our goal was to identify the best players in the country, put them in a position to showcase their ability against one another, and then provide an unmatched educational experience through discussions with some of the best female players ever to play the game and instruction by top level coaches – and I think we have done that.”

“This camp will once again provide a great opportunity for players from all around the country to come together and perform in front of U.S. Soccer staff and college coaches,” said Rory Dames, US Club Soccer’s id2 Girls’ Program Director. “I am very excited to see the players compete with each other in a challenging environment and for them to have the chance to learn from our great guests and staff members.”
