Courage clinch 2nd place in WAGS D3 with four-point weekend
Congratulations to the Courage players, families, and friends for a strong final weekend of play against two of the toughest teams we played all season. Our draw Saturday against Olney despite a flat performance, followed by an impressive 3-0 win over a strong Potomac side Sunday earned an important four points in the standings. When combined with other results from Sunday, we have officially clinched 2nd place in the league.
Courage win Jamestown Cup without conceeding a single goal
The U13 Courage traveled to Williamsburg for the Jamestown Cup and found themselves matched up in a lesser than expected level of competition overall, but thrilled with the facilities at the Warhill Sports Complex - complete with seven new synthetic turf fields. Twelve different players combined throughout the weekend to score 23 goals in four games, while solid defensive play and goalkeeping limited opponents to only a few shots on goal, with none allowed. The highlight of the weekend was Cassie Smith's opening goal in the championship match - scoring in just 11 seconds after intercepting the opponent's back pass, beating a surprised central defender, and calmly finishing in the side netting from 15 yards. The Chesapeake United side nearly pulled level minutes later, hitting the post and knocking a rebound towards goal that Alicia Giezen cleared from the line to preserve the lead, and open the door for a convincing 4-0 performance, sealing the second tournament championship in two tries for the Courage in the spring season.
Courage win Liberty Cup
Congratulations to FC Virginia Courage 94 for winning the Premier group of the U13 girls in the inaugural FPYC Liberty Cup Invitational over the weekend. Playing in an eight-team group with a points-only path the championship, the Courage were guaranteed four games, but only needed three to secure the championship. The U-13 WAGS team representing FC Virginia and Chantilly Soccer Club were the only team to win their first three matches, securing nine points out of nine possible. By the time the girls showed up for their 5 PM final game on Sunday all other group play had completed, with the next closest team only having earned eight points. Congratulations on a great beginning to the spring season, and on scoring some really gorgeous goals.
Welcome to the FC Virginia Courage 94 web site
We are an elite u13 girls travel team playing in Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS), Virginia State Cup, and top tournaments around the mid-Atlantic. Our players come from all over Loudoun and Fairfax County, VA.
We are dedicated to developing a superior technical foundation for our players that will provide them with not only the technical and tactical skills needed, but also the confidence and passion for the game that will help them achieve ANYTHING they decide to set as a goal in the future (soccer or non-soccer). Soccer-wise it is this team's goal for every player to have the opportunity to play in college at the highest level they desire - when the time comes. How many games we win or lose between now and then is far less imporant than this overriding purpose. With this goal however, comes the necessity to play at the highest level we can reach, both to improve, as well as to be seen in later years by college coaches.
Our Memership in FC Virginia provides our players with amazing opportunites to learn from more just one dedicated coach. FCV Director of Coaching, Terry Foley, has won 25 Virginia State Cup championships in 17 years, and regularly sends every single player from the oldest FCV teams to college - most with scholarships.
Our coaching staff are hired professionals, under the direction of the club, not parents of players. Our families are first class, and very supportive of the team's long term development plan. Each player is treated with respect and honesty with a singular focus on fostering a love of the game and improving in every way.
